20th Conference in Santa Fe

20th International Making Cities Livable Conference on

Santa Fe, New Mexico
April 15 - 19, 1997

Mayor JaramilloThe City of Santa Fe extends a warm welcome to participants of the 20th International Making Cities Livable Conference to be held in Santa Fe, April 15-19, 1997.

As Mayor of this beautiful city, I am proud that Santa Fe has been selected as host city for this significant international conference. You will have the opportunity to work with some of the leading city officials, urban designers, planners, and community leaders from around the world, who will share their vision and experience on how to make effective and livable cities.

There will also be occasions for you to enjoy the historic community of Santa Fe, and our rich cultural heritage. The City of Santa Fe has a unique diversity of people, ideals, values and ways of life. I have fought to maintain the character and identity of this, one of the most beautiful cities on the American continent. That means that we must honor the wisdom and values of the people who created Santa Fe, their distinct traditions and life styles, and respect the beauty of its natural landscape.

I want to provide the opportunity for all who live here to share in Santa Fe’s natural and cultural legacy, and to diminish the growing chasm between those who have much, and those who have little, so that all inhabitants become citizens who take responsibility for each other.

I hope that the presence of this conference and its participants will enhance our vision of the “greater good”, and especially focus our attention on our most valuable resources – our children and our youth, the future of our cities.

Debbie Jaramillo
